Every year from now until January 1st, you and your family can head over to the James Island County Park to view the Holiday Festival of Lights. This year is the 29th year it has been bringing families magical memories and this year is no different. There is an admission of $20 per vehicle and if you visit Monday through Thursday you can donate a canned food item or pet food and will only pay $15. This year, The Nutcracker seems to be popular because of the movie that has recently come out. But instead of seeing the movie, make it a tradition to come see the 25th Anniversary of the Charleston Ballet Theatre “The Nutcracker.” Many locals love to take their families to see the Charleston Ballet’s performance as this holiday favorite is performed. The show can be seen on December 10th at 7:30 pm and December 11th at 3:00 pm at the Galliard Auditorium. While this isn’t an event, we thought that you and your family would enjoy the beach a little this year while you vacation in Folly Beach. It’s nice to get away from it all and this could be an event in itself. Heading to the beach to watch for dolphins or to let the kids play in the sand can be an adventure. Thinking of heading to Folly Beach during Christmas this year, we do have several homes still available. If you have a large family then staying in Martiniville will be the perfect home for you. Folly Beach Safe After Hurricane Florence

For more than a week, we were just like the rest of the East Coast were wondering when Hurricane Florence would make landfall. The forecast was pretty consistent in showing where she would make landfall and knew that this was an intense storm. Many residents in North Carolina were already evacuating their homes and heading more inland to take shelter from the storm on Monday, September 10, 2018.

On Tuesday, September 11, 2018, we received word that all Coastal Counties were on a mandatory evacuation. Wednesday, September 12th our office closed at noon to be sure that we could safely evacuate the area just in case Florence decided to make landfall near our beautiful island.

As the world watched one of the strongest storms inching closer and closer to the United States, we realized how large this storm really was. Beginning on Thursday, September 13th, the rain began in Eastern North Carolina and the wind was ripping through. By Friday, September 14th it had made landfall in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina and we were still not sure if our area would be impacted. At 8 p.m., the core of Tropical Storm Florence had crossed from North Carolina into South Carolina, still throwing around 70 mph winds.

The next several days Florence showed her fury and decided to make a slow movement towards our state, South Carolina. Folly Beach did receive rain from the hurricane and some wind as well, but we were in the clear.

Folly Beach is Open

Folly’s Best Rentals opened back up for business on Saturday, September 15th as the curfew ended at 1:00 pm. We watched the news and saw the devastation that Hurricane Florence left in her path. Many residents in the Carolina’s have lost everything due to flooding, trees and just the devastation that Florence brought with her. While we feel very lucky to have had no damage or flooding to our area, our hearts go out to everyone in the Carolina’s who have been affected. If you are looking to help those who have been affected, making a donation to United Way Hurricane Florence Recovery will go a long way.

If you have a fall vacation coming up in the next few weeks, please monitor the road conditions in South Carolina. There are still many roads that are closed including many roads in North and South Carolina due to flooding or damage from the storm. We want to make sure that our guests get here to Folly Beach safely for their vacation!

Bring Your Dog on Vacation to Folly Beach

Do you have a vacation planned this year and you are planning on bringing your pup? We at Folly’s Best Rentals have several pet-friendly vacation homes that you can stay in while you vacation. But we wanted to let you know of a few things to help make your vacation a little better for both you and your dog. There are a few rules that you will want to know before your vacation to help keep your dog safe.

What to Bring

Bring Your Dog on Your Vacation to Folly Beach

When you are at home and packing to come on your trip, you will want to make sure you have a few essentials for your pet. If you bring a crate or kennel with you sometimes that can help your pet feel not only safe but more at home. Bring enough food and treats for your dog for your vacation. Bring your pets water and food dishes along with you . And bringing a bed and some blankets for them to lay on while you are staying with us will help them feel like they are more at home. A collar and a leash for you to be able to take your pet for a walk or possibly a run on the beach.

What Not to Do

Folly’s Best Rentals want to make sure that you and your dog feel at home while you stay with us. But we do have a few set rules to help keep your dog safe during your stay. The dogs are not allowed on furniture and must stay on the floor. When your dog uses the bathroom outside, make sure to clean up after it so you will not be fined. Also, please make sure that you have your dogs under control while you stay in one of our vacation rentals. If we find that your pup is making too much noise or is uncontrollable, then you will be asked to leave the property for the remainder of your trip. We don’t want that to happen so let’s make sure they are well behaved.

Dogs on the Beach

Bring Your Dog On Your Vacation to Folly Beach

Dogs are allowed on the beach year-round, but from May 1 – September 30th they are not allowed on the beach from 10 am – 6 pm. This is to keep both your dog safe and others safe during the busy times. If you’d like to take your dog for an early morning walk from your rental on the beach to watch the sunrise you may. Just make sure that you bring plenty of doggy bags to clean up after your dogs while on the beach. All dogs must be leashed while you are on the beach.

Dog-Friendly Places in Folly Beach

If you’re looking to head around Folly Beach with your dog and looking for a place to hang out and eat there are several dog friendly restaurants in the area. Located just a few blocks from the Folly Beach Pier is The Lost Dog which serves tasty breakfast and lunch with a Southern twist. And with having an outdoor seating area which welcomes you to bring your dogs with you. If you’re in the mood for some pizza then head to over to Woody’s where dogs are welcome on the outdoor patio. Craving seafood, then head over to Folly Beach Crab Shack for some amazing seafood with a great outdoor area that is dog friendly. Water bowls and treats are on hand at this restaurant!

Bring Your Dog on Your Vacation to Folly Beach

There are plenty of other places you can visit that are dog-friendly in Folly Beach but these are just a few that we recommend. Coming during the summertime or off-season time, there is always something for you and your dog to enjoy. If you are still looking for a vacation rental we’d love for you to check out what we have available for the rest of the summer. We can’t wait to see you and your family this summer to help make new memories you can share with everyone!

Family Friendly Vacation Ideas while Vacationing at Folly Beach, SC

Do you have a family vacation planned this summer? Have you ever considered Folly Beach, SC to be your next destination? Great! Folly Beach, SC has a lot to offer anyone who comes to visit the island. Families love to visit year-round and the summer offers even more for you to take advantage of. Depending on what your family likes to do or wants to be adventurous in, there is something here for everyone. We always have specials you can take advantage of as well!

A good start is to find out what kind of vacation you’d like to have. Would you like to have a relaxing one where you can bring your pets and family and just hang out or would you like to be adventurous and discover the island and what it holds? For many families, it can be a little of both and that is just what we have to offer. Our little island has many different opportunities for you to escape, enjoy and have fun with. If you have a child who loves turtles, then Folly is the way to go! Folly has many loggerhead turtle nests around the beaches that sometimes if you’re lucky, you will be able to see each day if the turtles have hatched. Another way to discover the island is to head down to the Lighthouse Inlet Heritage Preserve where you can’t swim but you can take a nice walk on the trail and discover the wildlife that happens to be there. There is a $1.00 per person charge to get into the park but know that the money goes towards preserving the park.

If your family is looking for a different kind of adventure, then maybe head to Folly Beach Chair Company where you are able to rent different things such as stand up paddle boards, bikes or surfboards. Take the stand-up paddle boards to the sound area and what a workout you will have. The cost isn’t too bad either and have a little fun while learning to use the paddle boards. Many of the locals you will find are out on the boards themselves enjoying the wildlife that you will see. If you’d like to be even more adventurous then possibly renting a boat and heading over to Morris Island or Fort Sumter for the day and explore a little there. We even hear that the surf fishing at Morris Island is wonderful and you might see a dolphin or two while you are there. Spending the day at the beach is another family-friendly favorite and maybe if you are lucky, you will get to find some shark teeth during your stay.

Just like spending the day at the beach with the surf, sand, and fun; eating dinner might sound like a good deal too. Folly has a little of everything that you might be looking for while on a family vacation. While there aren’t many fast food restaurants on the island, there are still a lot of different restaurants that you can check out. Depending on your mood and seeing how you may not want to cook for a night or two while enjoying your stay in Folly Beach Vacation Rentals, there are plenty to choose from. Taco Boy is a local favorite as well as Blu Beach Bar & Grill. Both offer excellent food and have food that all ages will enjoy. Looking for something a little different, it’s just a short drive over to Charleston to find other amazing restaurants there.

And just before your vacation is over, bringing home a little piece of Folly is just what the doctor ordered! Folly has to offer some pretty interesting and fun shops for you to enjoy. If you are looking for candy such as salt-water taffy to bring home, head on over to Sugartime where the candy is endless. Want to just grab something for during your stay and don’t want to head to a large grocery store? Stop over at Bert’s Market for a fun little treat and you will be treated just as if you were a local. There are so many different stores that you can head into and just browsing is perfectly alright as well. With so many options and different things to do in Folly, it’s hard to get them all done in one trip. That’s why you need to make coming to Folly Beach, SC a family vacation every year and enjoy what we have to offer year-round. Just come on down the “Edge of America” and you will have a marvelous time!
