It’s Parade Time

Who doesn’t love attending a Christmas parade when on vacation? Many families who come to Folly Beach during the month of December love to go watch our Christmas Parade. When you stay in Sea 2 you will be able to walk to get your spot to see the parade. This year it will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 1:00 pm. Here you and your family can come watch Santa head down the street and enjoy some fun. During the parade, if you’d like to do a little shopping for those gifts, then head over to the Community Center. At the Community Center, you will be able to grab some handmade gifts at the Arts & Crafts show. And just in case your kids want to visit with Santa or as we know him as “Sandy” Claus in Folly Beach, you can by heading over to Folly River Park after the parade. Santa will be giving away some goodies, so don’t miss this fun event with the family!

Festival of Lights

Don’t Miss These Fun December Events in Folly Beach

Every year from now until January 1st, you and your family can head over to the James Island County Park to view the Holiday Festival of Lights. This year is the 29th year it has been bringing families magical memories and this year is no different. There is an admission of $20 per vehicle and if you visit Monday through Thursday you can donate a canned food item or pet food and will only pay $15. How amazing is that deal because the donation will go to help the Lowcountry Food Bank. This event is more than a tour in your car, it’s a way to explore the island. You and your family can park the car and go check out several different things such as a visit with Santa, see the dancing trees to the beat of Trans-Siberian Orchestra and more. Visit the gift shop or get some tasty treats at Santa’s Treats & Blitzen’s Burgers. There are so much more things that you can enjoy while you visit so this can’t be missed.

A Tradition Continues

This year, The Nutcracker seems to be popular because of the movie that has recently come out. But instead of seeing the movie, make it a tradition to come see the 25th Anniversary of the Charleston Ballet Theatre “The Nutcracker.” Many locals love to take their families to see the Charleston Ballet’s performance as this holiday favorite is performed. The show can be seen on December 10th at 7:30 pm and December 11th at 3:00 pm at the Galliard Auditorium. If you miss those two showings, you’re in suck because they will return on Dec. 16th at 7:30 pm and December 17th at 3:00 pm at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. You can purchase your tickets today and make this a new tradition when you visit during the holiday season.

It’s Beach Time

Don’t Miss These Fun December Events in Folly Beach

While this isn’t an event, we thought that you and your family would enjoy the beach a little this year while you vacation in Folly Beach. It’s nice to get away from it all and this could be an event in itself. Heading to the beach to watch for dolphins or to let the kids play in the sand can be an adventure. Thinking of heading to Folly Beach during Christmas this year, we do have several homes still available. If you have a large family then staying in Martiniville will be the perfect home for you. It can sleep up to 10 people and is the perfect home for everyone to spend the holiday in. Another few homes that might work for your family would be G.O.S. Getaway, Boogie Down and Back Bay #1. All of these homes are close to where you are right on the oceanfront or it’s a small walk to the beach. You and your family can sit on the beach and enjoy the waves rolling in and out. Watch the beautiful sunsets, collect seashells or go for a run. The possibilities are endless when you visit Folly Beach this time of the year!

While there are many other events happening in the Folly Beach or surrounding areas, we thought these might help making your decision a little easier. This year we at Folly’s Best Rentals would like for you and your family to experience visiting us during the holiday season. We know that you will have a blast and we hope to see you soon.

Folly Beach Safe After Hurricane Florence

For more than a week, we were just like the rest of the East Coast were wondering when Hurricane Florence would make landfall. The forecast was pretty consistent in showing where she would make landfall and knew that this was an intense storm. Many residents in North Carolina were already evacuating their homes and heading more inland to take shelter from the storm on Monday, September 10, 2018.

On Tuesday, September 11, 2018, we received word that all Coastal Counties were on a mandatory evacuation. Wednesday, September 12th our office closed at noon to be sure that we could safely evacuate the area just in case Florence decided to make landfall near our beautiful island.

As the world watched one of the strongest storms inching closer and closer to the United States, we realized how large this storm really was. Beginning on Thursday, September 13th, the rain began in Eastern North Carolina and the wind was ripping through. By Friday, September 14th it had made landfall in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina and we were still not sure if our area would be impacted. At 8 p.m., the core of Tropical Storm Florence had crossed from North Carolina into South Carolina, still throwing around 70 mph winds.

The next several days Florence showed her fury and decided to make a slow movement towards our state, South Carolina. Folly Beach did receive rain from the hurricane and some wind as well, but we were in the clear.

Folly Beach is Open

Folly’s Best Rentals opened back up for business on Saturday, September 15th as the curfew ended at 1:00 pm. We watched the news and saw the devastation that Hurricane Florence left in her path. Many residents in the Carolina’s have lost everything due to flooding, trees and just the devastation that Florence brought with her. While we feel very lucky to have had no damage or flooding to our area, our hearts go out to everyone in the Carolina’s who have been affected. If you are looking to help those who have been affected, making a donation to United Way Hurricane Florence Recovery will go a long way.

If you have a fall vacation coming up in the next few weeks, please monitor the road conditions in South Carolina. There are still many roads that are closed including many roads in North and South Carolina due to flooding or damage from the storm. We want to make sure that our guests get here to Folly Beach safely for their vacation!

Bring Your Dog on Vacation to Folly Beach

Do you have a vacation planned this year and you are planning on bringing your pup? We at Folly’s Best Rentals have several pet-friendly vacation homes that you can stay in while you vacation. But we wanted to let you know of a few things to help make your vacation a little better for both you and your dog. There are a few rules that you will want to know before your vacation to help keep your dog safe.

What to Bring

Bring Your Dog on Your Vacation to Folly Beach

When you are at home and packing to come on your trip, you will want to make sure you have a few essentials for your pet. If you bring a crate or kennel with you sometimes that can help your pet feel not only safe but more at home. Bring enough food and treats for your dog for your vacation. Bring your pets water and food dishes along with you . And bringing a bed and some blankets for them to lay on while you are staying with us will help them feel like they are more at home. A collar and a leash for you to be able to take your pet for a walk or possibly a run on the beach.

What Not to Do

Folly’s Best Rentals want to make sure that you and your dog feel at home while you stay with us. But we do have a few set rules to help keep your dog safe during your stay. The dogs are not allowed on furniture and must stay on the floor. When your dog uses the bathroom outside, make sure to clean up after it so you will not be fined. Also, please make sure that you have your dogs under control while you stay in one of our vacation rentals. If we find that your pup is making too much noise or is uncontrollable, then you will be asked to leave the property for the remainder of your trip. We don’t want that to happen so let’s make sure they are well behaved.

Dogs on the Beach

Bring Your Dog On Your Vacation to Folly Beach

Dogs are allowed on the beach year-round, but from May 1 – September 30th they are not allowed on the beach from 10 am – 6 pm. This is to keep both your dog safe and others safe during the busy times. If you’d like to take your dog for an early morning walk from your rental on the beach to watch the sunrise you may. Just make sure that you bring plenty of doggy bags to clean up after your dogs while on the beach. All dogs must be leashed while you are on the beach.

Dog-Friendly Places in Folly Beach

If you’re looking to head around Folly Beach with your dog and looking for a place to hang out and eat there are several dog friendly restaurants in the area. Located just a few blocks from the Folly Beach Pier is The Lost Dog which serves tasty breakfast and lunch with a Southern twist. And with having an outdoor seating area which welcomes you to bring your dogs with you. If you’re in the mood for some pizza then head to over to Woody’s where dogs are welcome on the outdoor patio. Craving seafood, then head over to Folly Beach Crab Shack for some amazing seafood with a great outdoor area that is dog friendly. Water bowls and treats are on hand at this restaurant!

There are plenty of other places you can visit that are dog-friendly in Folly Beach but these are just a few that we recommend.
